The old industrial railways of Ajka inspire an intrepid researcher to organize a trip to visit the remnants of these once so indispensable railways. It was a very early saturday morning when we departed from the Déli pu. Our car was very new, at least with MÁV, as it was bought used from Germany, but right after an overhaul it's heating wasn't switched on, making it a good training field for our future tour with the industrial locomotive, which is incapable of heating anyway, so our By class car will be cold we knew.
The Csinger valley, an alumnia factory and a coal power plant was in our schedule. The two latter still have significant traffic on the rails, though far less than they used to, while Csinger valley used to have a spread out traffic of wood, manganese and coal, now only a portion of it remaines. The valley is one of the most beautiful ones in Hungary, no surprise that despite it's meant to be a freight line (it only used to bring workers to the mine), there's a yearly charter.
Our mood was high on the entire journey, only partly because of the precautions we took to fight the cold, but mostly because of the company and the fantastic program we got.
