On my second car trip to Poland exclusively to take railway photos, Viktor accompanied me instead of Lóri, and on the way we took this photo of a regular Žilina to Zvolen fast train near Kostiviarska. The travelogue of the previous trip to the area of Katowice and Krakow can be seen here .

The Ružomberok-Korytnyca 760 mm narrow-gauge railway was dismantled, but a part inside Ružomberok was converted to standard gauge and nowadays this class 810 railcar runs on it occasionally.

Many years ago my friend Viktor and myself were taking photos here, right in the Orava river gorge, in heavy rain, so using tripods, and from the road, so in reflective vests. Strangely every motorist adhered to the speed limit at the level crossing. A few years later, on our first big trip to Poland, we took some nice photos of a special with a Bardotka with my friend Lóri.

We have finally arrived at our destination, Parowozjada 2018, in the area of Chabówka, the Skansen Taboru Kolejowego w Chabówce railway museum. When discussing Polish steam locomotives , most people will think about Wolsztyn, which is an every day use steam locomotive workshop, while Chabówka, operated by PKP Cargo houses a large number of locomotives at display and just a few operable units. During the weekend of the parade however, additional Polish and foreign steamers are present and some of them will make chartered excursions in the area.

The Kraków to Zakopane railway makes trains change direction at Suche Beskydska and at Chabówka, but local trains progress from Chabówka to the resort town Rabka Zdrój, situated on the Chabówka - Nowy Sacz railway, where they turn back and travel to Chabówka on the same route as before to branch off to Zakpoane or Krakow after the station. As the sign shows, the track is only electrified so far and the rest of the track is only used by museum trains. Parts of the track are in really bad condition so only a few trains a year run on them, but the whole track is passable.

The Kibel (cornichorn) is the typical Polish electric multiple unit, but it originates from the Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot Tricity area, where the first electric multiple units had been Berlin S-Bahn trains moved from live rail to catenary feeding. Pafawag started to manufacture trains similar to these just a little later. The standard setup is driving trailer+motor+dirving trailer, but the Zakopane line (and other montainous routes) see double-motorised unit trains. With nickname Gomulka they also appeared in Yugoslavia and are still visible in most of Poland (one version or the other) and Slovenia:

Only the early morning train went as far as Kasina Wielka, the rest went to Mszana Dolna. This is because the gradual refurbishment of the historic track to Nowy Targ is going on slowly. Still, we managed to make a magnificient picture on the second day.

The Gorillas will soo disappear from the rails to be replaced by ŽSSK Vectrons on the Slovakian main line, ČD Vectrons on the Metropolitan trains to Budapest, and a former territory, illustrated by some of the photos below, InterCity trains from Košice to Budapest is now becoming an area for class 362 Eso bi-system locomotives.
