Every weekend a historc train from Vienna went up to the Semmering to bring hikers up to the trails on the mountain. Another good feature was that it also helped the tired hikers get a good schnaps quickly. Today it's practically impossible to get to Spital am Semmering for a good skiing - if you want to slide, buy a car and get in it!
