The 1044 052 between Breitenstein and Wolfsbergkogel
(Südbahn - Semmeringbahn)
The most well known constructions of this stretch of line are located upwards from Breitenstein. There is a small trek along the rails until the Stellwerk (signal box), after that the gap between the train and the railing becomes very small, so I prefer walking under the rock wall, where there is more room and usually trains come fromt the pass, where you can hear them a few minutes early as they pass the Adlitzgraben. This train, going uphill, wasn't heared but about 3 seconds before it appeared. We were safe though: there is a small area just before the tunnel far from the rails where you can take photos in both directions. Though there is left-hand traffic on the Semmering, occasionally a fast train comes on the right-hand track to take over a slower freight train without the need for it to stop.
