The end of the train is currently in the second shortest tunnel of Austria, the 14-metre-long Krauseltunnel (the shortest is a 12 m tunnel on the Donauuferbahn). The engineer of the railway's construction, Carl Ghega could have removed the entire rock formation (just cutting it through probably wouldn't have been good because of the high possibility of a rock fall), but decided to keep the attractive shape in general and build a tunnel instead. The Semmering Freeway, often visible from the train on the other side of the valley is not built in such a manner: it has enormous and highly destructive concrete structures, whereas the railway can barely be seen from a car running on the freeway.
