The road to the Pyhrn-pass is long and runs in a wide valley, but to keep up the continous gradient the one-track railway had to be laid to the mountainside, often in rocky cuttings or atop the narrow crowns of gobbled supporting walls. Despite the low speed, never stopping maintenance is crucial.
