In 1871 the mainline of the Kassa-Oderberg railway, that runs in the Vág valley, and the first line of the Hungarian State Railways, coming from the Turócz valley, from Budapest, via Losonc (Lucenec) and Zólyom (Zvolen) met here. Nowadays the freight station is much larger than that at Zsolna and the vehicle repair works and factory ZOS Vrútky operates here, as the most important and highest level base of the Slovakian Railways.
