In this travelogue I am going to present the Waldenburgerbahn from the North-West of Switzerland. The photos were taken during a trip in 2018, so far our last in the country. We are in a continuous hurry to visit all the railways that still have some classucal, 1960s-1990s equipment and record the beautiful landscape with those unique vehicles. The Stadler replcaments, though practical and comfortable, are rather uniform and somewhat plastic for our taste. This article only covers a small part of our trip, omits our first days at the Rhätische Bahn and our last days on the various mountain railways in the area of Aigle. The reconstruction of the Waldenburg Railway made this part of the trip very important to us, even though the landscape is only hilly and not at all alpine. Still a unique experience.

But how did we get there from the RhB?

The railway has been comissioned on 1 November, 1880 and is the only 750 mm gauge (75 cm) passenger railway in Switzerland.

Officially it is tram line 19.

The trains may go to the Slovakian Čiernohronská Lesná Železnicá at Čierny Balog, which currently works as a museum narrow-gauge railway mostly with steam traction:

After the delivery of the BDe 4/4 EMUs, it will be converted into a regional tramway much like that in the High Tatras and new lines are going to be built from Chvatimech to the North and South.

Basel has an interesting tram network where many lines lead beyond the city borders. Multiple lines end directly at the German border, one even crosses it and a line crosses over to France only to return to Switzerland for its terminus. To make it more interesting there are two tram companies, which is not unheard of, but very rare in Europe. The Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe operates the lines and infrastructure inside the city and Baselland Transport owns the tracks outside. They yellow BLT trams do come to the city centre though using the same tracks, and to make up for that, BVB is running the services on one of the interurban lines. Curious, isn't it? Since for the Hungarian page I simply translated the Wikipedia article and framed it into the document I will point you to the original English language article where you can find a lot of details about it.

Previously we had groups based on the types of vehicles but now colourful tram networks can be seen as a whole too.
