Those of you who thought we were not going to make it to catch the freight had it right. As soon as it was ready with shunting and had a clear track to the Vereinatunnel they started it. We didn't have to be sad though: Zernez is a beautiful, typical Swiss town with old, painted walls, sundials, continously flowing springs and a post-modern, concrete parking garage. To the North, the tracks lead across the wide but scenic Unterengadin and to the South they have to find their ways over many viadukts and through lots of tunnels in the second Inn gorge. After some initial sadness over missing the freight we went ot the horseshoe curve just South of the town in a huge field, probably the most open photo spot in the Unterengadin. And anyway, the day after we had some spectacular freight catches on the Albula railway making up for any losses here.
