The MÁV-START C50 5713 seen between Balatonfenyves GV and Központi főmajor
Photographing a class C50 locomotive at the Balatonfenyves narrow-gauge railway is not only a nice thing because it is hauling a freight train which is a rare sight at narrow-gauge but also because they are being used for regular trains less and less: Mk48 locomotives dispatched from the temporarily suspended Kecskemét railway (numbers Mk48 2008, 2013 and 2022) mean that the Balatonfenyves regular Mk48 2003, one of the oldest such locomotives does not have to be used anymore, there are plenty of locos for one of them to always be in a running condition, they have better heating in winter, many drivers assigned from other MÁV-START depots don't have a license to drive C50s, so everything points in the direction that my childhood experience of the C50 taking us to Csisztagyógyfürdő and my later experience of taking my first Balatonfenyves photo of a regular train with a C50 become part of the past. The new era with new track and better rolling stock is ahead.
